SEMrush Features and Tips & Tricks
Paid search
Most people use SEMrush exclusively for SEO campaigns.
But it's really a really good one PPC Tool.
(Especially if you...) keywords and want to copy a competitor's advertisement.)
In particular, you can see which keywords your competitors use most frequently.
They also offer services for specific requests without trademarks.
Even better, you can see exactly the ads that are displayed under these conditions.
And if you find an ad that has been running for months or years, you know it probably has an excellent quality score.
So if you have the same copy in your AdwordsBy using ads, you have a good chance of replicating their results.
Keyword Gap
Keyword Gap shows you a list of keywords for which your competitors rank.
And if you find a keyword that multiple competitors rank for, you know it's also one that you have a good chance of ranking for.

Keyword overview
So far, we have discussed functions related to the reverse engineering of a competitor's website.
There is a good reason for this: Reverse engineering is SEMrush's specialty. And it's great.
However, you can also use SEMrush like a traditional keyword tool.
Mit anderen Worten:
You can enter a seed keyword into the tool… and receive a list of keyword ideas and metrics for that term.

Organic research
“Organic Research” set the tool SEMrush on the map.
And it still works great.
To use it, add a competitor's website to SEMrush.
And you get access to a lot of incredibly useful data.
Let's quickly break down the individual metrics on this page.
First, you have "keywords":

This is the total number of keywords for which a website is displayed.
In our opinion, this metric is not particularly helpful.
Let's assume a website ranks on the second page for 1,000 different keywords.
These 1,000 keywords send almost no traffic to this page.
Since this metric does not focus on keywords that rank in the top 10, it is not very useful.
Secondly, you have "traffic".
This is an estimate of the monthly visits a website receives from search engines:

This is not 100% accurate.
But it's a good way to evaluate your competitor's SEO.
Finally, we have the metric we pay the most attention to: "Traffic costs":

Traffic costs estimate how much the organic traffic to this website is worth.
(Assuming you paid for the same data traffic with PPC.)
Because this metric considers both data traffic AND the value of that data traffic, it is our preferred metric across the entire SEMrush suite.
Organic search positions
Here you will find all the keywords for which a website is displayed.
(And where they rank)
This is SUPER helpful for keyword research.

Instead of in Google Keyword Planner When searching for gold, you receive a list of impressive keywords presented to you on a silver platter.
If your competitor ranks for these keywords, you can do it too.
Now:
By default, SEMrush displays keywords that bring the most traffic to this page:

This is a helpful starting point.
However, you can do much more with this data.
For example, you can sort by "volume" and display the most frequently searched terms.
Alternatively, you can use an advanced filter to only see terms with a CPC of CHF 5 or more.
You can also filter out keywords that have a SERP function (e.g., featured snippets).
This way you can access conditions that contain many organic clicks.
In summary: For organic search positions, we usually start the keyword research process.
Unlike most keyword research tools, this feature gives us a list of terms for which we can easily create a ranking.
Traffic Analytics
Traffic Analytics provides you with data on all website traffic for a website.
(Not just organic traffic from Google)
Mit anderen Worten: This function is SEMrush's answer to SimilarWeb.
And it's a very useful feature.
When you analyze a page with traffic analytics, you first receive an estimate of the total traffic figures for that page:

(This is helpful to compare where you stand compared to your competitors.)
You will also gain access to how people interact with this page.
For example, you can view the average page views of a website, the bounce rate, the session duration, and more.
And you will receive a chart to see how these metrics have changed over time.
However, the actual meat and potatoes of this function are "traffic sources".
Traffic sources are exactly what they sound like: You can see not only a breakdown of a page's traffic sources:
But a list of the exact websites that bring the most traffic to this website.
Keyword Magic Tool
This SEMrush function does one simple thing:
It generates MANY keyword ideas.
For example, if we include the keto diet…

… We get a list of 54 related keywords.
Fortunately, you can sort the list by search volume, difficulty level, CPC, and more.
Keyword Difficulty Tool
Keyword competition can be difficult.
Finally, you must consider the following:
- Authority of the page
- Domain Authority
- On-page SEO
- Quality of content
- User intent (User Intent)
- Much more
Enter the following: SEMrush's Keyword Difficulty Tool
It doesn't analyze everything you need to know about a keyword.
But it helps you find out if you have a chance of achieving a rank.
To use this feature, enter a keyword for which you would like to have a rank.
And you get a difficulty level of 0-100%.
You can also compare multiple keywords to find out which keywords you should target first.
Rank Tracking
This is the ranking tracking tool integrated into SEMrush.
It works like most other rank trackers on the market.
![]()
They give it a domain and a list of keywords…
…And you will receive a daily update showing your rank.
In our experience, this function is extremely reliable.
(In other words, when we manually check our rankings, they match the SEMrush report.)
And that's why we use it.
Our only criticism is that the default view is "Visibility Trend".
This shows you changes in the rankings… in the top 100 results.
Here too, the ranking on the second page is pretty much the same as on page 10.
Page audits
You can also use SEMrush to help with SEO site audits.

In particular, you can see serious errors that can affect your technical SEO.
And “warnings” about things that are not particularly important, but that may need to be fixed.
What's really cool about page audits is that you can compare crawls.
This way you can see how the technical SEO status of your website changes over time.
SEO content template
This feature is designed to help you write content that many people will find useful. LSI keywords included.
Let's say you wanted to have a ranking for "Keto Diet".
Well, SEMrush will analyze the top 10 results for this term.
And provide "semantically related words" to include in your content:

You can even have the tool analyze a draft of your content to see how it is structured.
Organic Traffic Information
Every old-school SEO professional remembers the good old days before "not provided".
Well, SEMrush has a feature ("Organic Traffic Insights") that attempts to simulate the keyword-level data we used to get into Google Analytics.
First, you need to connect your Google Analytics and Google Search Console accounts to SEMrush.
SEMrush analyzes the data to find out which keywords generate the most organic traffic.
Link Building
SEMrush's link building features are quite solid, although not quite as good as Ahrefs.
You can do the usual things, such as analyzing a website's link profile.
And analyze your links for anchor text usage, dofollow vs. nofollow, and overall link authority.
What's special about SEMrush is that they've developed an interesting link building tool.
