Quality Content

Writing high-quality content should be an essential aspect of every SEO-strategy. But when is your content considered high-quality?

Does "high-quality" mean the same thing to your users as it does to Google? In this article, I'll discuss what constitutes high-quality content and how you can ensure your content meets the standard. It requires some creative writing skills.

But don't worry, you don't have to become the next Martin Suter. By focusing on the right things, you can create high-quality content that your users enjoy reading and that achieves a high ranking in search engines.

What is quality content?

That's the million-dollar question. Knowing how to write good content will help you get more visitors, lower bounce rates, and achieve higher conversions.

But who determines the quality of your content?

The simple answer is: Your users. However, this also makes creating the right content more difficult. Because all your users are different and have different search intent. They all have one thing in common, though: all users know what they want. Meanwhile, you're still trying to figure out what your target audience wants to read about!

Although the quality of your content is ultimately determined by your users, there are solutions you can take to ensure that you create well-thought-out, readable, and attractive content.

Something that shouldn't be underestimated is updating your content. Regular updates help keep your content current and more relevant to your target audience.

There are numerous search engines that can influence how your content is ranked. Therefore, it's crucial to focus on the relevant search engines and ensure your content meets their requirements. And yes, this will take time.

Another important aspect of support is tools and programs that help you give your content the right polish and optimize it.

How do you create high-quality content?

1. Write for your readers, not for yourself.

If you have an e-commerce website, you want your readers to be informed about the products or services you offer. If you blog, you want your readers to get to know you and the topics that interest you.

However, it is also important to consider what your users actually want to read about.

  • What interests do they have?
  • What events or news are they following that you can associate with your company?
  • And what “problems” are they trying to solve that led them to your website?

The first step in creating quality content is ensuring it contains the information your target audience is looking for. To find out what information your users are searching for, you need to conduct thorough keyword research.

This helps you determine what to write about and which words your target audience uses. Keyword research also helps your ranking, as more visitors and lower bounce rates signal to Google that your site is a good result that should appear in the search results.

2. Make your content readable and appealing.

If you want to get your message across and ensure that people read your entire blog post or page, make your content easy to read.

  • What does this mean?

This means thinking about the structure of your text and the words you use. Too much text without headings or paragraphs puts people off.

They give your readers some breathing room. Also, try to limit your use of difficult words and be careful with the length of your sentences. These can make your content difficult to understand, which in turn will slow your readers down.

Finally, it's good to use variation in your text to make it more engaging. Use synonyms and alternate longer sentences with shorter ones.

Another important aspect:

Have fun writing! And be personal in your writing style. This will help you create high-quality content that stands out from your competitors, and it will help users get to know you and your company.

3. Consider your search intent and your goal.

  • What does search intent mean?

Search intent is the reason why a person performs a particular search. It is the term that describes their purpose.

  • For example, do they have a question that needs to be answered?
  • Or would you like to buy something online?

A person's search intent makes a difference in how they perceive the quality of your content. If it meets their needs at that moment, they'll stay on your page longer. But if they need an answer to a question and the page they land on is just trying to sell them products, they'll be gone before they know it.

It's important to consider search intent when creating content for a specific page. Therefore, I would advise you to align your goals with the various search intents that users might have.

  • Is one of your goals to gain more newsletter subscribers?

Then you should add this subscription button to the pages where users land for informational purposes.

  • Does a person have a transactional intent?

Make sure you land on the right page. If someone searches for the term "product XY," you don't want them to land on a blog post that discusses a topic related to that product.

Ideally, you want them to land on a page dedicated to "Product XY". A category page also works if you have multiple variations of "Product XY".

Of course, experience tells us that things aren't always so black and white. Nevertheless, it's good to consider your users' search intent. This will help you determine the focus of your content and which calls to action you want to include in a particular page or post.

A great way to get started is to adopt a content design mindset. This mindset helps you produce user-centered content based on real needs. I would also recommend looking at search results to create great content.

4. Be trustworthy

When people land on your site, it's crucial to build trust, especially if they're unfamiliar with your website. You need to demonstrate to your audience that you are trustworthy. But how?

  1. By writing clearly and in a user-oriented way.
  2. You should avoid using stock photos, as real photos build more trust and give your website a personal touch. The same applies to your "About Us" page. Try to use real photos of your team.
  3. Add Google reviews and testimonials to the relevant pages and set up HTTPS. This way, your users and Google can recognize that your website belongs to a real business or person, allowing them to browse your site with confidence and peace of mind.

5. Keep your content up to date

Another key element in creating high-quality content is its timeliness and relevance. This means you need to update your content from time to time to ensure people can find the right information.

  • But why is this so important?

Because it shows your users that you are up-to-date with the latest developments and can always provide them with accurate information.

In other words, it builds trust and ensures that your audience keeps coming back to your website.

Keeping your website and blog posts up-to-date is also important for search engine optimization, as this shows Google that your website is "alive" and relevant. Therefore, schedule time to update your content regularly.

A brief summary about quality content

Well-structured and readable content won't instantly propel you to the top of Google, but it will have a positive long-term impact on your search engine optimization. Therefore, before you publish one post after another (or one page after another), it's worth considering a few steps.

Make sure you write for your readership, make your content readable, align search intent with your goals, be trustworthy, keep your content up-to-date, and work on the structure of your website.

The end result: attractive content that your readers will appreciate. This will have a positive impact on your visitor numbers, bounce rates, and conversions.
