Google Ads campaign types

Campaign and ad types described by our Google Ads agency

Google Ads text ads

Google Text Ads are advertisements that appear below the search results in the SERPs (search engine results pages). You place your ad in the position on Google where most users first search for information. Users are accustomed to seeing the results and clicking on them.

Google Ads Display Ads

Display ads are image-based advertisements that appear on websites within the Google network. These ads distract users' attention from the content on the website.

Google Video Ads (YouTube)

Video ads are short video ads that appear on YouTube, typically between six and 15 seconds long. They are usually shown before or after (and sometimes in the middle of) YouTube videos. Remember that YouTube is also a search engine. By using the right keyword, you can be placed before a video and thus capture the user's attention.

Google Shopping Ads

Google Shopping Ads are ads that include detailed product information such as price and product images. You can run a Shopping campaign through the Google Merchant Center, where you enter specific information. Google uses this information to create your Shopping ads. You can advertise specific products and product lines.

Google App Ads

You provide Google with information about your app and its audience and submit a bid. Google does the rest to get your app noticed. You run ads that encourage your audience to install your app or, if they already use it, to perform a specific action within your app.

Remarketing

Remarketing allows you to run campaigns, tag your website visitors, and provide them with content after they have left your site. These are people who have already visited your website.

Successful ads with our Google Ads agency

With our Google Ads agency, you can run Google Ads campaigns and ads that are aligned with your SERP results. An ad campaign can also be used on YouTube and other websites.

Google Ads was launched in October 2000 as Google AdWords launched on the market. In 2018, it was renamed Google Ads. It falls under the pay-per-click (PPC) marketing channel. You pay per click or per impression (CPM) on an ad.

A Google Ads agency will show you ways to attract high-quality visitors to your website. With the help of a Google Ads agency, you can increase traffic to your site through successful and strategic Google Ads campaigns.

Unlike a typical online marketing agency, which does social media, web, app & software development etc. in addition to Google Ads, we only do search engine advertising – i.e. SEO & SEA.

It is very important…

…that a Google Ads campaign that's already launched isn't just activated once and then runs itself, no. We're talking about real money that's invested daily to ensure your Google Ads campaign reaches the right target audience at the right time.

This should be optimized monthly; someone should be dedicated solely to campaign optimization to ensure no wasted ad spend. Successful optimization means more revenue with less expenditure.

Your business will appear in Google search results (SERPs) when users search for your products or services. It also makes sense to find a Google Ads agency in your area. For example, a Google Ads agency in Zurich will differ from one in Bern, as familiarity with the local area plays a crucial role when running a local campaign.

Even more important is hiring a Google Ads agency in Switzerland, as they are much more familiar with your target audience and can launch targeted search engine marketing or better campaigns.

Google Ads agency for keyword selection

Correct keyword selection is crucial for a successful campaign. However, it's not always straightforward, as keywords can be difficult to understand (negative keywords – ever heard of them?). There are broad keywords as well as highly specific keywords and key phrases (search phrases).

    • Broad match

Broad Match is also known as Standard Match type. Unless you specify otherwise, Google will match all your search terms using this type.

    • Phrase match

The keyword is enclosed in quotation marks. The ad is delivered in response to a search for the corresponding phrase, e.g., "blue pants". Your ad will appear when a search contains your phrase or a close variation, possibly accompanied by additional words before or after the phrase.
These are campaigns that exactly match your search term. The keywords are displayed in square brackets, e.g., [buy red dress].

    • Negative keywords

Besides relevant keywords, there are also keywords with which you definitely don't want your products or services to be identified. Therefore, you should consider and determine which keywords your campaigns should absolutely not appear under.

Frequently Asked Questions about Google Ads

How does Google Ads work?

To advertise their products and achieve their desired online marketing goals, companies often turn to a Google Ads agency. To enable Google to determine which ads are shown to potential customers, a competition is held in almost every product category.
Advertisers bid on specific keywords so that their clickable ads appear in Google's search results. Advertisers have to pay for these clicks. This is how search engine advertising generates revenue.

What does Ad Rank mean?

Ad Rank determines whether your ad is shown and where it appears on the page in relation to other ads. Ad Rank is calculated using your bid amount, the components of the Quality Score, and the expected impact of extensions and other ad formats.
Your ad cannot permanently appear in the top spot, as Google recalculates your ad's ranking every time someone searches for those terms. It's therefore a constantly shifting target. You should analyze which ad position can generate the best ROI for you.

What is the Quality Score?

Quality Score is a summed-up estimate of your overall performance in ad auctions. It takes into account the quality of your ads, keywords, and landing pages. The timing of your ad's auction is not determined by the Quality Score.

What does Google Ads Bidding (CPC, CPM, CPA) mean?

Google Ads bidding is an auction system. Advertisers can select a maximum bid they are willing to pay for a click on their ad. To achieve a better placement, your bid should be correspondingly higher.

The following three options are available for bidding: CPC, CPM or CPE.

  • With CPC (Cost per Click) this option, you pay for every click on your campaign.
  • CPM (Cost per Mille) means you pay for one thousand ad impressions, i.e., when your ad is shown to one thousand people.
  • CPE (cost per engagement) means you pay as soon as someone performs a pre-defined action with your ad.

What is a click-through rate?

The click-through rate (CTR) is a metric that indicates how often an ad or link is clicked relative to the number of impressions. The CTR is a component of online marketing and should be as high as possible.
A high-quality ad has a higher click-through rate (CTR). This means that the ad targets relevant keywords and matches the search intent.

What is a conversion rate?

The conversion rate describes the ratio between website visitors and completed transactions. It indicates how many users, upon visiting a website, perform a specific action desired by the website operator.
It's the number of clicks you receive on your ad. If your ad is high-quality and uses relevant keywords that match the search intent, it will also achieve a higher click-through rate (CTR).
The conversion rate is crucial for companies pursuing their digital marketing goals and aiming to break records. The higher the conversion rate, the better the user experience (UX/UI) of a website. This is a direct indicator that the dedicated digital marketing agency has done an excellent job.

What Google Ads extensions are available?

Extensions enhance your ad with additional information, giving people more reasons to choose your business. They typically increase an ad's click-through rate by several percentage points. These extensions include call buttons, location information, links to specific parts of your website, additional text, and more.

These extensions fall under one of five categories:

Extension of sitelinks

They help you stand out from the crowd. They also provide links to your website, which offer users compelling reasons to click.

Call Extension

This extension allows you to add your phone number to your listing. Users then have an additional way to contact you. Only include your phone number if you have customer service that is actually willing to answer calls.

Site Extension

Your phone number and address are included here. This makes it easier for Google to find you.

Offer Extension

These are suitable if you are currently running a promotional campaign. They will encourage users to click on your ad if your prices are lower than those of your competitors.

App Extension

This is very suitable for mobile users, who can download the app instantly via the direct download link without having to perform a new search.
